Only one species in this family was identified in kororā diet: Speckled moray Gymnothorax obesus, a very are species known from only four specimens around the north of North Island. They were however identified from kororā scat samples from Cape Sanctuary, Kaikoura, Timaru, Allans Beach, and the Catlins. Their distribution is not well understood possibly due to their large size and deeper habitat making collection of specimens difficult. They can grow to 1.7m and occurs in depths of up to 146m.
